Abraham Torres - Student Highlight

Before enrolling in the MOS program, Abraham previously completed the Cardio/Phlebotomy program, learning how to perform EKGs, draw blood, and carry out venipuncture procedures. In addition to learning these hands-on skills, Abraham prepared for valuable healthcare certifications including Certified Phlebotomy Technician* and Certified EKG Technician*.

After graduating from the Cardio/Phlebotomy program, Abraham decided that he wanted to continue his education and training to prepare for additional healthcare career opportunities. “I wanted to get another certification,” said Abraham.

As a student in the Medical Office Specialist program, Abraham will learn a variety of skills, making him a valuable member of the healthcare team. This program trains students to directly care for patients and complete back-office administration duties.

Some of the patient care skills students learn in their medical office classes are injections, basic wound care, and suture removal. Some of the back-office skills students will learn include patient intake, charting, and medical billing.

The MOS program also prepares students for additional healthcare certifications, including Certified Medical Administrative Assistant*, Certified Billing and Coding Specialist*, and Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist*.

Abraham was in high school before deciding to attend Boardman Training Canter. After graduation, he chose BTC to further his education. “I wanted to get a job in the medical field,” said Abraham.

When asked what his favorite part is of attending BTC, Abraham said, “My phlebotomy class was fun because I got to draw blood.” Abraham said his favorite teacher so far has been Sandy and his favorite class was phlebotomy.

After he finishes his healthcare training program and graduates from BTC, Abraham wants to work as a phlebotomist or lab assistant. In five years, Abraham would like to have a job in a doctor’s office, have a house, and maybe start a family.

When asked if he would refer Boardman Training Center to a friend, Abraham said yes, he would because “you could get your certifications* in a short amount of time.”
