The first step in enrolling for classes at Boardman Training Center is to research the programs we offer and determine which career path best fits your individual goals. To make this decision easier, you can ask yourself the following questions:

  • Do I want to work with patients directly? Or do I thrive behind the scenes?
  • What healthcare environment do I see myself working in?
  • What specific skills do I want to learn?
  • What school setting do I learn best in?

Students interested in working directly with patients of all ages in a medical facility and learning blood drawing skills should consider entering the BTC Phlebotomy Technician program. As a phlebotomy technician, your duties can include collecting medical specimens to help doctors gain insight into a patient’s health, proper maintenance of equipment, comforting patients through uncomfortable blood draw procedures, and more. Your training at BTC will equip you with the knowledge of proper specimen collection, skin puncture techniques, and basic phlebotomy skills. At the end of the program, you will be prepared to sit for the Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT)* exam.

For students who are better equipped to perform other types of testing while still having a direct-patient care role, attending the EKG Technician program may be a better choice. Electrocardiograph technicians play a key role in identifying potential heart conditions. As a BTC EKG Technician training program student, you can expect to learn things like using a heart monitor, distinguishing between basic dysrhythmias, and more. At the end of the program, students will be prepared to sit for the Certified EKG Technician (CET)* exam.

For students who want to learn a combination of both phlebotomy and EKG skills, the BTC Cardio Phlebotomy program may be the perfect fit. As a cardio phlebotomy technician, you will possess various skills that allow you to work directly with patients and help the medical team provide the patient with excellent care. This comprehensive program teaches students skills, including performing EKGs, drawing blood, venipuncture techniques, controlling infections, and practicing fundamental patient care. At the end of this program, students will be prepared to sit for two National Healthcareer Association (NHA) certification exams: Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT)* and Certified EKG Technician (CET)* exams.

Students looking to pursue a career that allows them to directly impact the patient experience and serve as versatile members of the healthcare team should consider BTC’s Medical Assisting program. This program trains future medical assistants in basic healthcare tasks, including injections, specimen collection, obtaining vital signs, basic wound care, and more. Students in this program will prepare to sit for two NHA certification exams: the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)* exam and the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA)* exam.

Finally, the Medical Billing and Coding program may be an excellent fit for students interested in a behind-the-scenes career in healthcare. This program provides a basic knowledge of medical billing and coding systems, including ICD-10 standards. As a result of this program, students will be trained to manage medical records, insurance billing, identifying medical claims fraud, and more. Students in BTC’s medical billing and coding training program will be prepared to sit for the Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS)* certification exam.
