Explore Our Program

To enroll in fall classes, the first thing you need to do is choose which healthcare training program works best for you. To make this decision easier, there are a few questions you can ask yourself: do I want to work in a medical office, do I want to work with patients directly, and are there any specific skills I want to learn?
How to Enroll for Fall Classes

For students who want to learn how to draw blood, our Phlebotomy Technician program may be the right choice for you. As a phlebotomist, you will draw blood to collect medical specimens that help doctors gain insight into a patient’s health. While enrolled in their phlebotomy classes, students will learn procedures for specimen collection, skin puncture techniques, basic phlebotomy skills, and how to use specimen collection equipment correctly. The phlebotomy training program prepares students for the Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT)* exam, which sets phlebotomy students up for success in their future careers.

If you want to learn how to perform an electrocardiogram, our EKG Technician program may be the better choice for you. As an EKG technician, you will measure heart rhythms that provide critical information on heart health and potential heart conditions. As a student in EKG classes, you will learn things like identifying normal and abnormal EKG recordings, using a heart monitor, describing the normal physiology of cardiac conduction, and distinguishing between basic dysrhythmias. While enrolled in the EKG program, students prepare to sit for the Certified EKG Technician (CET)* exam.

For students who want to learn a combination of both phlebotomy and EKG skills, our Cardio Phlebotomy program may work best for you. As a cardio phlebotomy technician, you have the opportunity to work directly with patients, helping doctors to provide excellent care. As students complete their cardio phlebotomy classes, they are trained in various areas, including performing EKGs, drawing blood, completing venipuncture procedures, controlling infections, and practicing fundamental patient care. The cardio phlebotomy program prepares students for professional healthcare certifications, including Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT)* and Certified EKG Technician (CET)*.

If you want to learn various skills that train you to work in a medical office, our Medical Office Specialist program may be the right decision for you. Medical office professionals have the opportunity to perform both administrative tasks and care for patients while on the job. Students enrolled in medical office classes will learn various skills, including recording vital signs, patient intake, charting, collection of laboratory specimens, injections, suture removal, and basic wound care. While in the medical office program, students prepare for healthcare certifications including Certified Medical Administrative Assistant*, Certified Billing and Coding Specialist*, and Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist*.

Nikki Granger – Employee Highlight

Meet Nikki Granger, our Boardman Training Center highlight for this week!

Nikki Granger

Nikki started at Boardman Training Center in March 2014 as an Admissions Advisor and her role has grown from there.

Today, she does a little of everything including greeting and helping students, enrolling students, proctoring exams, planning events, assisting with managing BTC social media, and serving as a lab instructor for phlebotomy.

“If I’m doing my best job, students should love their education and be prepared for their career,” says Nikki. She strives to set a great example for students and has an open-door policy to help them achieve their goals and get their careers on a fast track.

Before starting as an employee at Boardman Training Center, Nikki was actually a student herself, so she has first-hand experience on what students need to be successful. In 2013, Nikki was an STNA and decided she wanted to do more to help people. This led her to enroll in the Cardio-Phlebotomy program and go on to complete the Patient Care Technician program here at BTC.

Nikki decided to make the move from student to employee at BTC because many of the students reminded her of herself, and she wanted to be part of helping them achieve something.

Nikki says there are many things she loves about working at BTC, but her favorite is seeing students succeed and achieve their goals. She works every day to make a positive impact on the lives of her students. “Put love into your work and love everyone that you have,” she says.

“I just love my job. I can’t even express that enough,” says Nikki. “I look at my job like I could be helping my own child.”

As for what she has accomplished while working at BTC, Nikki considers helping students enroll for classes to be her most important accomplishment, because she is helping them to better their lives and take such a big step for their future.

Outside of work, Nikki loves spending time with her daughter, who is active in both bowling, softball, and band. Nikki also serves as the Assistant Treasurer of Struthers Band Boosters, helping to raise money for band students.
