Jodi Roberts – Student Highlight

Meet Jodi Roberts, our student highlight feature for this week!

Jodi recently decided to pursue her goal of working in healthcare by enrolling in the Cardio Phlebotomy program at Boardman Training Center. Working in healthcare is something Jodi has always wanted to try since she was younger, because it enables her to help people.

When deciding what school to attend to get the healthcare training she needed, Jody chose Boardman Training Center because it was recommended to her by a friend.

“I work with a former student. She recommended BTC. She had good things to say about the school and the instructors,” said Jodi. After hearing about BTC from her coworker, Jodi called the very next day and set up an appointment to come visit the school.

Jodi said she chose the Cardio Phlebotomy program because she “thought it sounded very interesting to draw blood and other specimens, and I wanted to help people.”

At first, Jodi just was going to enroll in the Phlebotomy Technician program, but after meeting with Nikki Granger, Admissions Advisor at BTC, Jodi decided to go with Cardio Phlebotomy. Jodi thought that learning additional skills, such as EKGs, would make her more marketable when applying for jobs in the medical field.

Previously, Jodi attended a larger university, and says while the teachers were good, the class sizes were a little too big. At this time, Jodi wasn’t sure what she wanted to do and didn’t have a set major. She decided to take a semester off to figure out what she wanted to do.

After getting married, staying home with her kids for a few years, and working part-time, Jodi decided she wanted to do something different, and was ready to make her move into the healthcare field.

When asked what her favorite part is of attending BTC, Jodi said it’s “the people. The instructors are very helpful. The other students also do whatever they can to help. The hours also work really well with my work schedule.”

Phlebotomy has been Jodi’s favorite class and Irene has been her favorite teacher while at BTC. “Some students learn at a different pace, and Irene gives a lot of individual attention, and addresses what you need to work on,” said Jodi.

After graduating from the Cardio Phlebotomy career training program, Jodi would like to work in a walk-in lab setting. She would prefer this instead of working in a hospital, as the hours would be better for her.

In five years, Jodi would like to be doing phlebotomy full time and have her own health insurance. She would love to do some traveling with her husband, including Alaska for him and the South to get some sunshine for her!

Jodi said she would refer Boardman Training Center to others who want to start a career in healthcare. “I like the small class sizes. The hours work great for people who work. They really want you to succeed. They help you with what you need to work on,” said Jodi.

When Jodi first began the Cardio Phlebotomy program, she was nervous, but she says she is not nervous anymore because her instructor was able to help her. “You get a lot of individual attention,” said Jodi.

For potential students who are considering enrolling in career training classes with Boardman Training Center, Jodi has some advice. “Just do it. They will work with you and you can do more than you think you can. Make sure to study!”

Eileen Syfert – Student Highlight

Meet Eileen Syfert, our student highlight for the week at Boardman Training Center!

Have you ever felt like you wanted a more fulfilling career, one that allows you to really make a difference and help people? This is exactly how Eileen felt before deciding to begin fast track career training at BTC.

After helping her grandfather for a year, it sparked Eileen’s interest to work in the medical field and do something worthwhile with her career.

Additionally, Eileen traveled to Europe for three months and visited Norway and Sweden. This was a great experience and gave her some time to reflect, which really put things into perspective for her. Eileen knew she felt lost in her career but didn’t know exactly what she wanted to do.

Before enrolling with Boardman Training Center, Eileen attended a community college for criminal justice and worked for a criminal defense attorney as a legal assistant, but she didn’t like sitting at a desk all day and wanted something that would allow her to get up and move around more.

“I choose BTC because I wanted a new, more fulfilling career, and everyone here was extremely helpful, positive, and encouraging,” said Eileen. After coming to the Boardman Training Center campus and meeting with Nikki, BTC Admissions Advisor, Eileen realized there was nothing stopping her from enrolling in school, and she signed up the very next day.

Eileen chose the Cardio Phlebotomy program at BTC as a way to break into the healthcare field.

“I thought the programs here would be the perfect introduction into the healthcare field. I felt like I could make a difference and have more purpose at work,” said Eileen.

So far, phlebotomy has been Eileen’s favorite class. She says that drawing blood is exciting and a nice balance of challenging and fun.

When asked what her favorite part of attending fast track training classes at BTC is, Eileen said, “I love that I feel valued and heard as a student. Anytime I have an issue, the instructors go above and beyond to help me overcome the issue.”

Eileen says she feels a sense of belonging at Boardman Training Center and has already recommended the school to others. One person has already signed up and will be starting classes soon!

Payton Delgado – Student Highlight

Meet Payton Delgado, our student highlight feature for this week!

Payton started at Boardman Training Center in the Phlebotomy Technician program in February 2019 and decided to pursue the Cardio Phlebotomy program as well.

“Being here feels right, better than anything else,” said Payton. She loves the small class sizes and flexible schedule that BTC offers to students.

Before attending the fast track training classes at BTC, Payton went to a large university for exercise science but didn’t like it because most of her courses were online and not hands-on. She said it was hard to get into her classes because there was no actual professor teaching and she prefers learning in a hands-on environment.

Payton works in the food industry and knows she does not want to do that for the rest of her life. She has been working in it for a year and can tell that it’s not for her. She wants to do something that will allow her to make a difference.

In the process of deciding what to do next, Payton explored a few different options, but none of them felt right. She was looking for a training program that taught hands-on skills that she could actually use while on the job.

Then, Payton’s mom told her to check out Boardman Training Center because completing a healthcare training program would allow her to do something that is making a difference. Her mom was a true leader and pushed Payton because her mother knew she wanted a career.

Payton loves that BTC is local and that the classes are small. With evening classes, she can continue to work while attending school.

She says that because her classes are only three nights per week and the program is only 24 weeks to complete, she has a much easier time managing everything.

“I chose Cardio Phlebotomy because I like being behind the scenes, and learning about how the heart works interests me,” said Payton.

When asked what her favorite part of attending Boardman Training Center is, Payton said, “Everyone in my class is there for the same reason as me, and we all get along and help each other out.” Because of the small class sizes, she knows everyone and has built great relationships.

Payton said that Sandy is her favorite teacher at BTC because she does a great job explaining everything to her and other students.

Payton recommends Boardman Training Center to others and said that someone she works with has already spoken to Nikki Granger (BTC’s admissions advisor) about enrolling in classes.
