Nicole Habeger – Student Highlight

Meet Nicole Habeger, our student highlight feature for the week!

Nichole has worked in healthcare for many years and is attending the Cardio Phlebotomy program at Boardman Training Center. She chose this program because caring for others is important to her.

Before deciding to attend BTC and get on the fast track to an exciting new career, Nicole attended larger universities, but decided that they were not worth it for her. In high school, she also attended a local career and technical center, earning her STNA.

Nicole has many years of experience in the medical field, as she worked eight years at a retirement home and one year at a local hospital. Eventually, Nicole decided to try working in a different field, but she soon discovered that a career in healthcare is what’s right for her.

“I tried to get out of the medical field and very soon discovered it is what I need to do. I am a caretaker through and through,” said Nicole. She has little cousins and loves them like they are her own kids. She is always there for them and helps with anything they need.

“It seems like a great place. I fell in love with phlebotomy at the hospital and they offer it here,” said Nicole when asked why she choose Boardman Training Center to prepare for an exciting career in the healthcare field.

Nicole said her favorite part of attending Boardman Training Center is “the smaller classes and the personalities of all the instructors and directors. They truly care about everyone who walks through that door!”

When asked what her favorite class is so far at BTC, Nicole said that phlebotomy is her favorite because she loves drawing blood.

After graduation, Nicole wants to work as a phlebotomist or in a medical office so that she has the opportunity to help other people. With so many years of experience in healthcare, Nicole knows she has a lot of directions she can go in her future career, and she would like to pursue more positions in a lab setting.

Nicole would like her life to be comfortable and happy in five years. She would like to get married and start a family, and does not want to struggle living paycheck to paycheck.

Nicole said she would absolutely recommend Boardman Training Center to a friend! “I truly believe this is the best money I’ve ever spent. They set you up for success. They will do everything in their power to make sure everything is suitable for your needs. If there is anything they can do to make your life a little easier, stand back because they will all do their best to help,” said Nicole.

Now that she’s on her way to an exciting new career in healthcare, Nicole said she is very thankful that she was able to start the Cardio Phlebotomy program at BTC. She enjoys previous graduates coming into visit the teachers and giving pep talks to the classes.

When asked if she has any advice for others thinking of attending healthcare career training classes at BTC, Nicole said, “Nikki is persistent. If she sees something in you, she is not going to let you walk away easily. Just ask questions, because if you have questions, chances are that someone else does. Never be afraid to talk to your instructors. Don’t give up! They won’t let you anyway!”

After she completes her cardio phlebotomy classes, Nicole would like to enroll in the Medical Office Specialist career training program at Boardman Training Center to continue to advance her skills in the healthcare field.

Prior to enrolling with BTC, Jenn attended a larger university for engineering. She had a pretty good experience there, however, she had to take many classes that did not pertain to her specific major. Jenn also worked at Home Depot and is the mom of an 11-year-old.

Looking to get into the medical field as a career change, Jenn chose Boardman Training Center for the fast-track classes that allow students to start their careers in months, not years.

“I chose BTC for the price, class size, and location. I also thought that the class length was appropriate,” said Jenn.

So far in her experience at BTC, Jenn’s favorite class has been EKG because she loves the analytical and mathematical side of it.

When asked about her favorite teachers at Boardman Training Center, Jenn said, “I love Sandy because of her PowerPoints and life experience stories. I love Dave for the tidbits of quick ways for memorizing the facts and how it all works together. I love Irene for her compassion and thoroughness with phlebotomy, and always going above and beyond to help.”

After she graduates from BTC, Jenn would like to work in a lab testing blood samples or work as a telemetry observer at a hospital. As part of her five-year plan, she would love to move to a state by the ocean and work in a hospital doing EKGs.

When asked if she would refer Boardman Training Center to friends, Jenn responded, “Yes, because it’s a great education with great teachers!”

After helping her grandfather for a year, it sparked Eileen’s interest to work in the medical field and do something worthwhile with her career.

Additionally, Eileen traveled to Europe for three months and visited Norway and Sweden. This was a great experience and gave her some time to reflect, which really put things into perspective for her. Eileen knew she felt lost in her career but didn’t know exactly what she wanted to do.

Before enrolling with Boardman Training Center, Eileen attended a community college for criminal justice and worked for a criminal defense attorney as a legal assistant, but she didn’t like sitting at a desk all day and wanted something that would allow her to get up and move around more.

“I choose BTC because I wanted a new, more fulfilling career, and everyone here was extremely helpful, positive, and encouraging,” said Eileen. After coming to the Boardman Training Center campus and meeting with Nikki, BTC Admissions Advisor, Eileen realized there was nothing stopping her from enrolling in school, and she signed up the very next day.

Eileen chose the Cardio Phlebotomy program at BTC as a way to break into the healthcare field.

“I thought the programs here would be the perfect introduction into the healthcare field. I felt like I could make a difference and have more purpose at work,” said Eileen.

So far, phlebotomy has been Eileen’s favorite class. She says that drawing blood is exciting and a nice balance of challenging and fun.

When asked what her favorite part of attending fast track training classes at BTC is, Eileen said, “I love that I feel valued and heard as a student. Anytime I have an issue, the instructors go above and beyond to help me overcome the issue.”

Eileen says she feels a sense of belonging at Boardman Training Center and has already recommended the school to others. One person has already signed up and will be starting classes soon!
