Charity Unruh – Student Highlight

Meet Charity Unruh, our student highlight for this week!

After graduating from high school, many people are unsure of what to do next. With so many options and career paths available to choose from, it can be hard to decide which one fits you best. Charity, our student highlight this week, experienced this as well.

“I was trying to decide what I wanted to do but couldn’t. I knew I had always wanted to do something in the medical field,” said Charity. When she was younger, her grandpa had cancer and had to have a lot of surgeries. In helping take care of her grandpa, she discovered that her niche in life was helping people. Her grandpa’s hospice nurse even told Charity that she is a natural nurse.

Charity’s mom is a pharmacist and she learned a lot about the medical field from her.

Before attending Boardman Training Center, Charity took a year off from school after high school to figure out what she wanted to do. She was originally going to go to college for nursing, but the cost of tuition was very high and unaffordable.

“I chose BTC because it was affordable. I liked that it is a small facility with small classes. Also, I could tell right away that the staff cares about their students,” said Charity of her decision to attend Boardman Training Center.

Charity is currently enrolled in the Medical Office Specialist program at BTC and is on the fast-track to starting her career in the medical field.

“I chose my program because I’ve always been fascinated with the medical field. My grandpa is the one who inspired me by helping take care of him when he had cancer,” said Charity. Also, her grandpa always told her that she would be a nurse.

When asked what her favorite part is of attending BTC, Charity said, “it’s that everyone here is so close knit, like a family. I also love that the staff goes to every length to make sure their students succeed.”

EKG is Charity’s favorite class in the Medical Office Specialist training program at BTC because she has always been fascinated by the heart.

Charity says that she would love to specialize in cardiology after graduating from BTC, because the cardiovascular system is her favorite and fascinates her the most. This goes back to Charity’s high school anatomy class when she dissected a pig’s heart. She was immediately intrigued and knew she wanted to work with the heart.

“In five years, I would like to have made a difference in as many peoples’ lives as I possibly can,” said Charity. She would even like to assist in heart surgeries one day.

When asked if she would refer Boardman Training Center to a friend, Charity said, “I would most definitely refer BTC to a friend. The staff is incredible, and it feels like I’ve created a second family by attending BTC.”

Charity truly loves training for a new medical career at BTC and says that it has been phenomenal for her. She couldn’t imagine her life if she had not come here for school.

Even though high school was not her thing, Charity says coming to BTC was different because they take care of you here. She doesn’t know what she will do when she leaves BTC because it has become a second home to her.

“Give it a shot. Look into it. Honestly, if you enroll here, you will not regret it. It will be like you have a second family,” said Charity, giving her advice for anyone considering enrolling at BTC to train for a new healthcare career.

“I have enjoyed all my classes at BTC. I couldn’t possibly pick a favorite. I love them all,” said Patti.

Before enrolling with BTC, Patti attended a larger university but says that Boardman Training Center is her favorite school that she has attended.

After being laid off from a job, Patti wanted something new that would give her career a boost. “I’ve worked in the medical field for years and I wanted to advance my career,” said Patti.

This led her to coming to BTC for a visit and meeting with Nikki Granger, Admissions Advisor. “Nikki really helped me make my dream happen,” said Patti. “I chose BTC because of Nikki. I had inquired and she was the most helpful,” Patti continued.

At BTC, we work with each student individually to create a plan that leads to future career success. With our WE CARE school environment, we encourage and empower each student to achieve their full potential.

When asked what her favorite part of attending Boardman Training Center is, Patti said it’s the instructors because they make learning fun.

After graduation, Patti wants to pursue a career as a Medical Assistant or maybe even become an instructor at BTC!

Patti has had an amazing experience at Boardman Training Center and says she would absolutely recommend BTC to others because the staff is great, the class sizes are smaller, and the instructors are always available to help you.

Erika Norris – Student Highlight

We are excited to announce our student highlight feature for this week, Erika Norris!

Erika Norris-Student Highlight

Like many Boardman Training Center students, Erika wants a career that allows her to make a difference and help people in their daily lives, but she doesn’t want to spend 4-6 years in school taking unnecessary classes to get there.

This led Erika to BTC, because she needed a fast track career training program that prepares her for what she’ll be doing when she graduates.

“I choose BTC because I want to be in the medical field. I want to help people and BTC helps me do that without all the extra time and money for classes I don’t need,” said Erika.

Before enrolling with BTC, Erika was just working in a job, not in a career field that she loves. Erika said she choose the Cardio Phlebotomy program because “in 24 quick weeks, I could be doing something I love.”

Erika had previously attended college at a larger university, which left her feeling a little lost. “I have gone to college before and it wasn’t for me honestly. Most of my classes were too big, with too much going on, and a lot of classes I didn’t need,” said Erika.

Erika said her favorite part of attending Boardman Training Center is the hands-on experience. Her favorite class is Phlebotomy, where she is learning valuable skills she will use in her career. So far, Erika said her favorite teacher is Mike.

After completing her career training program at BTC, Erika hopes to become a Phlebotomist, helping one patient at a time, and to continue growing in her career for years to come.

When asked if she would refer Boardman Training Center to a friend, Erika happily said yes! “I absolutely would. The people here have been nothing but nice to me and really want to see everyone succeed,” said Erika.
